Description

Cartier Santos Carrée, reference 2961, in steel and 18k yellow gold, circa early 1980s. This is the flat-cased Santos produced from 1978 until the curved Galbée replaced it in 1987. The 29mm case (41mm lug to lug) carries a brushed steel body, polished 18k bezel on eight screws, sapphire crystal, and an octagonal crown with a blue cabochon. The white lacquered dial has black Roman numerals, a date at 3, blued steel sword hands, and the Cartier secret signature in the VII. Original integrated two-tone bracelet with gold screws and Cartier-signed fold-over clasp, coming with 19 links. Caseback reads "AC 23,80 gr / OR 0,750 3,90 gr / AUTOMATIQUE" with the reference and serial fully legible. No box or papers.

DialThe dial appears clean with no visible marks, spidering, or discoloration. The Roman numerals and minute track are crisp, and the blued steel hands show no obvious oxidation. The date window is clear.

Case and crystalThe gold bezel has multiple surface scratches, especially around the screw heads at 1, 2, 7, and 11 o'clock. The stainless steel case shows light scratches and handling marks. The crystal appears free of chips or cracks. The crown and blue cabochon are intact.

BraceletThe two-tone bracelet displays surface scratches consistent with wear, particularly on the gold screws and links. The Cartier-signed folding clasp is present and shows minor scuffing.

Overall this is a very honest example, with some fantastic wrist presence.
