Sellers must be at least 18, a U.S. resident, and able to enter a binding agreement. You’ll complete a one-time identity check (KYC) before your first listing goes live. One account per person. We’re planning to open Grey Market to the EU and APAC in 2026 / 2027.
Grey Market is a curated marketplace for vintage, neo-vintage, and collectible watches. Every submission is reviewed by hand; we may decline pieces to protect catalogue quality and prevent model oversaturation. Submission does not guarantee listing.
Selling on Grey Market is free. There’s no listing fee and no commission on the hammer price — your only cost is insured shipping to our verifier, deducted from your payout.
There’s no fee if a submission is declined.
You upload photos and the basics about the watch. A Grey Market concierge drafts the full listing — title, description, and spec sheet — based on what you sent. You review and approve that draft before it goes live, so nothing is published without your sign-off.
Yes. The reserve is your minimum acceptable hammer price and is set during the listing flow. Reserve amounts are private — bidders only see whether the reserve has been met.
You’ll need to complete identity verification and connect a payout account so we can pay you when your watch sells. Listing itself is free.
Auctions run for seven days. Any bid placed in the final 2 minutes extends the clock by another 2 minutes — our anti-snipe rule — so there’s no last-second sniping advantage and bidders always have a fair chance to respond.
Once bidding has started, you can’t change material details or cancel without cause. If something is genuinely wrong (a factual error, an undisclosed issue you only just noticed), reach out to support and we’ll handle it.
You can answer public questions on the listing thread. Off-platform contact, sharing personal info, or trying to complete the sale outside Grey Market is not allowed.
When the auction closes with a winning bidder, we capture their payment into escrow and send you shipping instructions. You ship the watch — using our insured, tracked label — to our independent verifier within two business days.
The verifier inspects the watch against your listing, authenticates it, and forwards it to the buyer if it passes.
Your proceeds (full hammer price, minus only seller-side shipping) are released to your payout account once the verifier confirms a pass — typically within one business day of that determination. There is no Grey Market commission deducted. Payment lands in your bank based on your payout processor’s timing thereafter.
Because the verifier already inspected and authenticated the watch, valid post-delivery claims are limited to transit damage or shipment issues on the verifier-to-buyer leg. Those are resolved by Grey Market at our cost — they don’t pause or reverse your payout. Claw-backs are reserved for narrow cases like substitution, undisclosed defect, title issues, or seller fraud.
The transaction is canceled. The buyer is fully refunded and we pay to ship the watch back to you. Depending on why it failed, you may receive a strike. Confirmed counterfeits or material misrepresentation result in an immediate permanent ban.
Strikes cover lower-severity issues — late shipping, minor condition discrepancies, things that should have been disclosed. Two strikes within 12 months results in a permanent ban. Severe offenses (counterfeits, shill bidding, off-platform sales) skip strikes and ban immediately.
Every sale runs through an independent third-party verifier before the watch ever reaches you. The verifier physically inspects the watch against the listing — authenticity, parts, condition — and only forwards it if it passes. If the watch fails, you’re fully refunded.
Yes. Bidders complete identity (KYC) and payment method verification before placing a bid. This is what keeps proxy accounts, shill bidders, and bad actors out of the room.
Buyers pay the hammer price plus a flat 7% buyer premium, a payment-processing fee (free if you pay via ACH or wire, 2.9% if you pay via card), applicable taxes, and shipping from the verifier to you. Every fee is shown on the listing before you place a bid, so the total you owe if you win is never a surprise.
Most active listings have a reserve, set conservatively while the community is still emerging. Every listing carries a Reserve or No Reservechip next to the title so you can tell at a glance which kind you’re bidding on.
The reserve amountitself stays private — sellers set a minimum acceptable hammer price, but bidders never see the number, and we don’t show whether a live bid has cleared it while the auction is still open.
Whether the reserve was met is revealed afterthe auction closes. If the top bid didn’t reach the reserve, Grey Market connects the seller and the high bidder to see whether there’s mutual interest in negotiating a price that works for both sides. If the reserve was met, the auction proceeds straight to verification and escrow like any other winning bid.
Yes. Every bid is a binding commitment to buy at that price if you’re the high bidder when the auction closes. Bid retraction is not permitted except in narrow cases (for example, an obvious typo reported before close).
No. We don’t charge or hold funds on your payment method when you place a bid. Before bidding opens, we verify that you have a valid payment method on file. If you win, we automatically charge that payment method when the auction closes — for the hammer price plus buyer’s premium and estimated taxes and shipping.
If a bid is placed in the final 2 minutes of an auction, the clock resets to 2 minutes. That keeps the close fair and ensures every bidder has a real chance to respond.
When the auction closes with you as the winner, we charge your saved payment method for the hammer price plus buyer’s premium and estimated taxes and shipping. Funds go straight into escrow — they’re not released to the seller until the verifier confirms the watch is authentic.
You have 48 hours from auction close to provide a valid payment method and complete the purchase. If you don’t cure within that window, Grey Market may cancel the sale, relist the watch, or offer it to the next-highest bidder, and you receive a non-payment strike.
Your money sits with Grey Market until the verifier signs off. If verification fails, you’re fully refunded — premium, taxes, and shipping included — and we pay to return the watch to the seller.
We send the seller a tracked, insured shipping label. The seller has two business days to ship the watch to our independent verifier. The verifier inspects, authenticates, and either forwards the watch to you or fails it.
You’ll get tracking updates at every leg.
Typical timeline: 2 business days for the seller to ship, up to 5 days at the verifier, then overnight insured shipping to you. Most buyers receive the watch within a week or two of auction close, though specific cases can vary.
The transaction is canceled, you’re refunded in full, and we cover the return shipment to the seller. Verifier fees on failed inspections are absorbed by Grey Market.
You have 48 hours from confirmed delivery to flag transit damage, a tampered seal, a swap between the verifier-sealed package and what you received, or non-delivery on a courier-marked-delivered shipment. Authenticity and condition are not in scope here — those were already settled by the verifier.
Submit a claim within the 48-hour window with photos of the packaging and the watch. Grey Market handles the carrier insurance claim and resolves the issue with you directly — refund, replacement, or repair, at our election.
File a police report with your local agency and send it to us within the 48-hour window as part of the claim — that’s the standard for high-value, insured shipments. Narrow exceptions apply if filing a report is genuinely impossible for reasons outside your control; see Terms § 6.6 for the carve-out.
Share your referral link with someone who has never had a Grey Market account. When they finish verification and become bid-ready, you each receive $25 in referral credit. You receive a further $50 when they place their first bid of $500 or more, and a further $100 when their first purchase completes. Referral credit applies to our buyer premium and to shipping, never to the hammer price and never to tax. Full terms are in Section 19 of our Terms.
Someone who has never held a Grey Market account, who does not live at your address, and who uses their own payment method and shipping address. We check this against verification records, not just email addresses, so a new email address on its own is not enough. A referral link expires 30 days after it is first used, and only one member can be credited for any one person.
Referral credit applies to Grey Market’s 7% buyer premium and to the shipping cost on a purchase. It does not apply to the hammer price, to sales tax, to the payment processing fee, or to anything payable to a seller. On any single purchase you can apply up to that auction’s buyer premium plus shipping. Anything left over stays on your account for the next one.
The $25 at bid-ready goes to both of you. The $50 first-bid credit and the $100 first-purchase credit go to the referrer only. If you are the new member, your $25 is a discount on our fees.
Yes. You can earn credit on up to three completed introductions per calendar year, and redeem that credit within the same year. Anything above the limit stays on your account for a later year, as long as it has not expired. Per purchase, credit is capped at that auction’s buyer premium plus shipping.
Yes. Each credit expires twelve months after we post it to your account. The expiry date is shown next to the credit, and we apply the earliest-expiring credit first. In a few states we do not apply an expiration date; the current list is on the referral program page.
No. Referral credit has no cash value, cannot be transferred to another member, and cannot be withdrawn. It is a promotional credit, not a gift card.
Credit you earn for referring someone is generally taxable income to you, and we may need a Form W-9 from you before we can issue more of it. Credit you receive as a new member is a discount on our fees, not income. We are not able to give tax advice; talk to your own advisor. See Section 19.7 of our Terms.
Nothing about you. When your milestones generate credit for them, they are told only that credit was issued and how much, never your name, your contact details, your verification information, or anything about what you bid on or bought. See our Privacy Policy.
Anywhere off the Platform, with people you know. Please do not post it in your Grey Market profile or in comments, and please do not mass-email it or send it to people you do not know. If you post it publicly, say that you get credit when someone signs up through it. A simple line like “I earn Grey Market credit if you join through this link” is enough.
If you spent referral credit on a purchase that is later cancelled or refunded, we put the credit back on your account within five business days, and it stays good for at least twelve months from when we restore it. If a purchase that earned you credit is cancelled or refunded, that credit is reversed.
Grey Market is a peer-to-peer auction platform for vintage, neo-vintage, and collectible watches. We curate every listing, run timed auctions, hold buyer funds in escrow, and ship every sale through an independent third-party verifier before it reaches the buyer.
Every watch is physically inspected and authenticated by an independent verifier before it ships to the buyer. If the watch is counterfeit or materially different from what was listed, the buyer is fully refunded and Grey Market arranges return shipment to the seller at our cost.
Yes. Every sale runs through escrow. Funds are released to the seller only after verification passes — never before.
Every leg — seller to verifier, verifier to buyer — uses our insured, tracked courier program. Sellers must use the label we provide; direct seller-to-buyer shipping is not permitted.
We collect what we need to verify identity, run transactions, and prevent fraud. Identity-match data tied to KYC is retained to enforce bans across re-registrations. The full picture is in our Privacy Policy, and the legal basis is in our Terms of Service.
